Secret Warriors Vol. 1: Nick Fury, Agent Of Nothing TP by Brian Michael Bendis (Author), Jonathan Hickman (Author), Stefano Caselli (Illustrator). Exploding out of the pages of Secret Invasion and Mighty Avengers! Nick Fury and his new band of young heroes uncover the darkest secret in the history of the Marvel Universe! A secret that sends the Secret Warriors tumbling into an underworld of rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, super-powered spies, and global criminal organizations. Collects Secret Warriors #1-6, and Dark Reign New Nation story. 184 pages. Colonel Fury disappeared shortly after the Secret War and was noticeably absent or, more to the point, covert during the Secret Invasion. After the fall of SHIELD and the rise of HAMMER, Nick has not been idle. He has been gathering a team of “caterpillars”, people with powers – kids actually, who are unknown to the govenment or the Superhuman Registration Act. What he plans to do with that team is set things right. If all of this means nothing to you, don’t fret. It doesn’t matter. What matters to fans of the now-defunct SHIELD’s commander is that he’s back. Bendis and Hickman have a tight story than unrolls organically and a good understanding of who Nick Fury is – a tough guy in a tough spot. Top off an A-one story and good characterization with Stefano Casseli’s art and you have a hit. His storytelling is clean and uncluttered and well suited to the work. As a long time fan of Nick and the Howlers, I have often been disappointed in the hit-or-miss attempts to make a Nick Fury comic. Here, sans SHIELD, characterization is driving a 5 star story. And finally, the little boy in me is infinitely pleased to see the Howlers once again! If you’re a fan of Nicholas’ or the Howlers, you will be pleased.

Collects Secret Warriors #1-6, and Dark Reign New Nation story. Near mint, 1st print.
