After being run out of Boneville, the three Bone cousins – Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone, are separated and lost in a vast uncharted desert. One by one, they find their way into a deep forested valley filled with wonderful and terrifying creatures.

Out From Boneville is the first story-arc in the Bone series. It collects the first six issues of Jeff Smith’s self-published Bone comics. It marks the beginning of part one (of three) of the Bone series, titled Vernal Equinox.

In October 2019, a Bone project was picked up by Netflix for an animated series after Warner’s turnaround of the project. However, in April 2022, production on the series was canceled during a reorganization of Netflix Animation. As of February 2023, Smith attempts to approach the animation studios to continue working on the animated series.
