Punch-Out!! is a boxing video game developed by Next Level Games for the Wii and is the fifth main game in Nintendo’s Punch-Out!! series following the Super NES version of Super Punch-Out!!.

Punch-Out!! features a boxer named Little Mac working his way up the professional boxing circuits, facing a series of colorful, fictional boxers.

Little Mac is a boxer in Nintendo’s Punch-Out!! video game series. He is the smallest and youngest of all the boxers throughout in the series, yet boasts a powerful signature attack called the “Star Uppercut”. In the NES and Wii games, Little Mac is accompanied by Doc Louis, his trainer and mentor. Little Mac has also made multiple cameos outside of the Punch-Out!! series, including Captain Rainbow, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Fight Night Round 2, and within a variety of comic books, including those created by Valiant Comics.

Glass Joe is a French boxer from Nintendo’s Punch-Out!! video game series. He first appeared in the arcade game Punch-Out!! in 1984 and three years later in the NES game of the same name. His most recent appearance was in the Wii installment of Punch-Out!!. He was originally designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and was revised by Makoto Wada for the NES game. He is voiced by Christian Bernard in the Wii game.

He is the player’s first opponent in all of his roles and is famous for his weakness and cowardice. These elements are considered by critics to be stereotypes of French people. These characteristics were emphasized by the developer of the Wii game which included cutscenes which depict Glass Joe in French settings. Glass Joe is considered one of the most well-known characters in the Punch-Out!! series and a Nintendo icon. His name has been used to describe poor performance by sportspeople and teams.
