Adam Warren uses the Gen 13 crew to spoof the “Magical Girl” anime/manga genre. It was a further exploration of downtrodden Roxy of Gen 13. Known as mahou shoujo (“magical girl”) or just majokko (“witch-girl”) in Japanese, Magical Girls are empowered by various means with fantastic powers that both assist and complicate their lives, but manage to persevere despite this.

Just like the previous special centered on Grunge’s idea for the best kung-fu movie ever and it lampooned both Wildstorm characters, comics in general, and kung-fu movies in particular, this one is kind of the female version of the same idea. Here, Roxy’s the main character and the story once again makes fun of Wildstorm characters and the tropes of the genre, only instead of kung-fu movies this series satirizes “magical girl” anime/manga. I thought it was just as funny as “Grunge: The Movie,” but I guess I have a similar sense of humor as Warren.
