Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels, the first of which is titled A Game of Thrones. The episodes are mainly written by Benioff and Weiss, who are the executive producers alongside Martin, who writes one episode per season. Filmed in a Belfast studio and on location elsewhere in Northern Ireland, Malta, Scotland, Croatia, Iceland, the United States and Morocco, it premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011. Two days after the fourth season premiered in April 2014, HBO renewed Game of Thrones for a fifth and sixth season. The series, set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos at the end of a decade-long summer, interweaves several plot lines. The first follows the members of several noble houses in a civil war for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the rising threat of the impending winter and the mythical creatures of the North; the third chronicles the attempts of the exiled last scion of the realm’s deposed dynasty to reclaim the throne. Through its morally ambiguous characters, the series explores issues of social hierarchy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime, and punishment. Game of Thrones has attracted record numbers of viewers on HBO and obtained an exceptionally broad and active international fan base. It received widespread acclaim by critics, although its frequent use of nudity, violence and sexual violence has attracted criticism. The series has won numerous awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for its first four seasons, a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series – Drama, a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in both Long Form and Short Form, and a Peabody Award. Among the ensemble cast, Peter Dinklage won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for his role as Tyrion Lannister.

Arya Stark is a fictional character created by American author George R. R. Martin. She is a prominent point of view character in Martin’s award-winning A Song of Ice and Fire series, and also a main character in HBO’s adaptation of the series, Game of Thrones, where she is portrayed by Maisie Williams. She is the only character in the entire series to have POV chapters in all the published novels. Arya is the fourth child and younger daughter of Eddard and Catelyn Stark. She has five siblings: brothers Robb, Bran, Rickon, half-brother Jon Snow, and older sister Sansa. In her nine years, she has quickly shown herself to be an independent and wild-spirited girl. Unlike her sister, she is some what of a tom boy and rejects the notion that she must become a lady and marry for influence and power, showing no interest in the womanly arts of dancing, singing, and sewing; instead she revels in fighting and exploring, to the bemusement of her tutor Septa Mordane and parents. She is known affectionately as “Arya Underfoot” by the staff and servants of Winterfell. Arya is a spirited girl interested in fighting and exploration, unlike her older sister, Sansa. Arya wants to learn how to fight with a sword and ride in tourneys, which annoys Sansa, who enjoys the more traditional pursuits of a noblewoman. Arya is particularly close to her half brother Jon Snow, who encourages her martial pursuits. Jon Snow gives Arya her first sword, Needle, as a gift. Throughout her travels, Arya displays great resourcefulness, cunning, and an unflinching ability to accept hard necessity. As the series progresses, she becomes increasingly ruthless, committing multiple acts of murder with little hesitation or remorse. She is said to take after her fiery aunt Lyanna in temperament. Arya’s appearance is more Stark than Tully, with a long face, grey eyes, and brown hair. She is skinny and athletic. At the start of the story, she is generally regarded as plain, as exemplified by her nickname “Arya Horseface”, and often mistaken for a boy.

Maisie Williams (born 15 April 1997) is an English actress and dancer. She is best known for her role as Arya Stark in the HBO television series Game of Thrones, which earned her a Portal Award for Best Supporting Actress – Television (2012), Portal Award for Best Young Actor (2012), BBC Radio 1 Teen Award for Best British Actor (2013), Scream Award for Best Ensemble nomination (2011), and Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series – Supporting Young Actress nomination (2013). Since 2011, Williams has played Arya Stark, a tomboyish young girl from a noble family, in the HBO fantasy TV series Game of Thrones. It was her first role. She received acclaim for her performance. Williams continued to garner praise in the show’s second season and HBO submitted her for consideration as Outstanding Supporting Actress at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards. She won the 2012 Portal Award for Best Supporting Actress – Television, and the Portal Award for Best Young Actor. At 15 years of age, Williams was the youngest actress ever to win the Best Supporting Actress category.
