Description

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is a 1986 slasher film, the sixth film in the Friday the 13th film series. The film was written and directed by Tom McLoughlin. Although the original concept called for Tommy Jarvis, the protagonist of parts IV and V, to become the new villain, the poor fan reception of Friday the 13th: A New Beginning prompted the producers to bring back Jason Voorhees as the series’ antagonist. In resurrecting Jason, McLoughlin made Jason an explicitly supernatural force for the first time in the series, depicting him as being raised from the dead via electricity; this version of Jason – an undead serial killer and more powerful superhuman – would become the standard depiction for the rest of the franchise, until 2009’s remake. The film likewise broke with many other series conventions, introducing metahumor and action film elements including shootouts and car chases.

In a cross-promotional move, C.J. Graham appears as Jason Voorhees in the Alice Cooper video for He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask), which is the theme for Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (also starring Graham as Jason). “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” is a song by American shock rock musician Alice Cooper. It was released as the lead single from his 1986 album Constrictor, and the theme song of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, a slasher film and sixth part of the Friday the 13th film series released in the same year. The song is heard various times throughout the film and in the end credits. Two other songs, “Teenage Frankenstein” (also from Constrictor) and “Hard Rock Summer” (which did not appear outside of the Jason Lives soundtrack) are also featured in the film. The song features the famous “ki-ki-ki ma-ma-ma” (admittedly in its popular misheard version, “ch-ch-ch, ha-ha-ha”) sound effect, a trademark of the Friday the 13th series.

“He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” was a minor success, popular among fans of Cooper’s later work and enthusiasts of slasher films. It has been called “strangely new wave-ish” and said to “perfectly enscapulate the Friday the 13th films and the era in which they came to prominence.”

“The role of Jason Voorhees was basically dumped in my lap. But I would put on the mask in a minute if they asked me to do it again.” – C.J. Graham. Graham was chosen to play Jason Voorhees as a last minute replacement for the sixth film because the stuntman who was chosen wasn’t coming across with the power and menace that the director wanted. Graham is the 6th actor to play Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th series. Most people believe he is the 5th but Jason was portrayed in dream sequences throughout part 5 making Graham the 6th.

Alice Cooper (born Vincent Damon Furnier, February 4, 1948) is an American rock singer, songwriter, and musician whose career spans five decades. With a stage show that features guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, boa constrictors, baby dolls, crutch and dueling sword , considered by fans and peers alike to be “The Godfather of Shock Rock”; Cooper has drawn equally from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock to pioneer a grandly theatrical and macabre brand of rock designed to shock. Alice Cooper is credited with helping to shape the sound and look of heavy metal, and has been described as the artist who “first introduced horror imagery to rock’n’roll, and whose stagecraft and showmanship have permanently transformed the genre”.
