In Greg Horns own words: “This figure was originally painted with no background, but once everyone saw her we knew this would be the first cover, so I got to work immediately on the Paris skyline (I know the Arc of Triumph is not that close to the Eiffel tower–just humor me). The foreshortening of the arms and knives was really tough, but I got it to work by distorting the sais a bit. If you look very closely at the comic book cover, you will notice little skulls in her eyes.”
