The wait is over! The highly anticipated and much debated return of JASON PEARSON’s signature creation is here! Mack takes a job that should be easy money, but leave it to his daughter Panda to screw it all to hell. Trapped on top of a skyscraper, surrounded by dozens of well-armed men aiming for the kill… and our ‘heroes’ down to one last bullet. The most exciting BODY BAGS story ever will definitely end with a bang! Cover price $5.99.
The opening book introduced vast and bulky bounty hunter Clownface, so known due to his distinctive smiley-face mask. His routine and partnership was severely compromised by a betrayal, and further complications ensued with the arrival of his sassy and well-developed fourteen year old daughter Panda. She saw herself joining the family business, and by the end of the book had proved resourceful enough to do so.
Pearson’s power mad quest for unlimited power was spawned, as were so many other would be dictators, by Adam West’s Batman.
“In the seventies I fell in love with the Spider-Man cartoon and the Batman TV show. I was equally amazed that the convenience store down the block supplied these little picture magazines (with silly stories and bad art) of the same characters. I stuck with the silly little picture magazines (comic books!) because they came out on a pretty regular basis,” said Pearson, “After a couple of months I felt that — at the age of five — I could draw better than these Ross Andru and Jim Aparo guys. Maybe Neal Adams was in my league, but barely. Fourteen years later, I decided to make my presence known at the San Diego Con. The editors said I wasn’t ready yet, but I knew it was a lie to mask their jealousy. The following year (1990) was the birth of my world domination. Sixteen years later, I’ve yet to convince the world of my superiority — one day you fools will smarten up!”
After a few years on the road to power, Pearson, almost by sheer drunken chance, came up with the concept that would give him his foothold, the hulking Mack and the hyper Panda.
“Late one night at my art studio, with a pencil in one hand and bottle of whiskey in the other, I created Mack. He was supposed to be a serial killer disguised as a hero. The next day, he became a hero disguised as a serial killer,” Pearson explained, “Eventually, he was just a killer who did nice things every now and then. I have no clue of how I came up with Panda. One morning there was a drawing of her, by me, sitting on my art table.”
Of course, every quest to rule the world needs refinement, and “Body Bags” was no exception, as the duo evolved and changed over the years, mostly to stop readers from losing their fragile grasp on sanity.
“I’ve simplified the look so that the average reader can withstand the full power of my abilities without passing out from the euphoria — or it can be said I got rid of all the tiny inky rendering because I’m too damn lazy,” said Pearson.
Former WWE Superstar & Marvel Avengers Infinity War / Guardians Of The Galaxy Actor Dave Bautista Cast In Deadpool 2 Toned Dogtown Film Based On Jason Pearson’s Body Bags Cult Classic
Deadline reports:
Bold Films has set Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista to star and John Wick 2 scribe Kyle Ward to write Dogtown, a film based on the long-running comic book series Body Bags. The comic was created by Jason Pearson (Deadpool, X-Men) and it is a stylized, irreverent action comedy.
Bautista will play Mack Delgado, a professional bounty hunter tough enough to be called a “body bagger.” Things take a turn for him when the teenage daughter he never knew he had turns up on his doorstep, hoping to reconnect with the father she lost long ago. The hope is to start production this fall.
Hivemind’s Jason Brown and Sean Daniel will produce alongside Bold Films’ Michel Litvak, Gary Michael Walters, David Litvak and Jon Oakes. Bautista, Rawson Thurber and Jonathan Meisner will be exec producers with Bold Films’ Josh Throne, Svetlana Metkina, Jason Pearson, Ford Gilmore and Keven Gardner…
…Key to that is Bautista, the former wrestler and mixed martial artist who began his ascent in Guardians of the Galaxy, and has quickly established himself in the action arena with films like Blade Runner 2049, Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Hotel Artemis. He is currently shooting Stuber, an action comedy for Fox.
“Dave has quickly become a very appealing as action star; he’s huge, muscled, and can easily sell the action,” Walters said. “But he has delivered in comedy with the Marvel films, and showed the emotional range in Blade Runner. He’s a well rounded actor and we need that because the heart is key and he has that soulful quality. And the U.S. distributors love him.”
Walters said a director will be locked quickly.
“Dogtown will bring Bold’s style of edgy, auteur-driven filmmaking into the comic book genre,” said Bold Films chairman Michel Litvak. “Dave Bautista’s mixture of extraordinary action skills, comedic talent and warmth makes him the perfect choice to embody Mack Delgado.”
“Dave was born to bring Jason Pearson’s hilarious, subversive, and beloved comics creations to life on the big screen,” said Hivemind president and producer Jason Brown. “Like Sin City or Kick-Ass, Dogtown has a style all its own – a fast-paced action comedy that’s as much fueled by adrenaline as its emotional family dynamic”.
