Thunderbolts #110 featured a new creative team (writer Warren Ellis and artist Mike Deodato) and a new roster and direction for the team. The team was formed under the control of Norman Osborn, and the majority of the roster was made up of villains wishing to redeem themselves.

The Green Goblin is the alias of several supervillains that appear in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The first and most high-profile incarnation is Norman Osborn, who was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in The Amazing Spider-Man #14 and is often considered the archenemy of Spider-Man. The Green Goblin is a Halloween-themed supervillain whose weapons resemble bats, ghosts and jack-o’-lanterns. Comics journalist and historian Mike Conroy writes of the character: “Of all the costumed villains who’ve plagued Spider-Man over the years, the most flat-out unhinged and terrifying of them all is the Green Goblin.”1 The Green Goblin has appeared in several films including 2002’s Spider-Man as Norman Osborn, and 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Harry Osborn, Norman’s embittered son.

Mike Deodato (born 23 May 1963 in Campina Grande, ParaĆba, Brazil), sometimes credited as Mike Deodato Jr., is the professional pseudonym of Brazilian comic book artist Deodato Taumaturgo Borges Filho.

While his style in the mid-90s was highly reminiscent of Jim Lee, he has recently changed to a more simplified, photo-realistic and sometimes moody style. His first work with this new artistic identity was The Incredible Hulk, written by Bruce Jones. Since then, he has worked on the Doctor Strange spin-off Witches and became the regular penciller of The Amazing Spider-Man and The New Avengers. Deodato then took over as regular penciller for the Marvel title Thunderbolts with issue 110, once again collaborating with Warren Ellis. Deodato then became the regular artist for the Dark Avengers ongoing series which came out of the conclusion of Secret Invasion. With writer Ed Brubaker, he launched the ongoing series Secret Avengers in May 2010, before returning to New Avengers.

Four telepaths held captive in Thunderbolts Mountain use their powers to turn the team members against each other. They coerce Swordsman into blowing up the Zeus transport, killing countless support staffers in the hangar, urge Venom on a carnivorous rampage, induce Radioactive Man into threatening to give everyone in the base cancer and unhinge Norman Osborn into resuming his Green Goblin persona, also killing many in the wake of his madness.
