Description

Broadway Comics was a short-lived comic book publishing company started by Jim Shooter in 1995, after his former company, Defiant Comics, had folded. The company was a division of Broadway Video Entertainment with Shooter as co-owner of the characters. Shadow State was a comic book published by short-lived Broadway Comics. The issues generally had two stories, one of which featured the character Fatale. It was written by Jim Shooter. Shadow State included a comic-within-a-comic called Blood S.C.R.E.A.M., which parodied Rob Liefeld of Image Comics’s works. Shadow State’s run lasted 5 issues. The first issue was published in December 1995 and the final issue was published in May 1996. The first two issues also contained a Fatale storyline that continues in the Fatale series. Shooter has a writing credit in the first three Shadow State issues. Each issue of Shadow State contains a comic within a comic. The main character in Shadow State reads comics and each issue of Shadow State contains a mini-story titled “Image Isn’t Everything” that the main character is reading. The mini-story is a parody of the Image Comics extravagant drawing style and dialog. Fatale first appeared in Broadway’s premiere issue, Powers That Be #1, published in November 1995. She also appeared in Shadow State #1 and #2 prior to getting her own self-titled series in January 1996.
